Four Different Jobs, Four Different Parts

People arrive on this page looking for one of four things, so here is the short version of which is which:

  • A front bumper that clears bigger tyres — low profile, better approach angle.
  • A front bumper that carries a winch — the mounting plate has to be built in.
  • A rear bumper — protecting the quarter panels and liftgate, which are the expensive things to straighten.
  • Rock sliders — rocker panel protection, a separate purchase from either bumper.

One fitment note that matters more than any other on this generation: the Rock Defense bumpers are listed for 6-lug 4WD 4Runners. If your truck is 2WD or 5-lug, check with us before ordering.

Front Bumpers

Two Trail-Gear Rock Defense options, both built entirely from 1.75" x .120" wall DOM tubing with a front 2" receiver:

  • Rock Defense Low Profile Front — without stinger, and the broadest fitment on the page: 1989-1995 Pickup and 1990-1995 4Runner, 6-lug 4WD.
  • Rock Defense Front with winch mount — 1990-1995 4Runner, 6-lug 4WD. Mounting holes are drilled for most 5000-9500 class low profile winches and the smaller Warn 9.0R competition winch.

There is also the All-Pro Series tube bumper, listed for the 1989-1995 4Runner and Pickup, with a winch platform and integrated light mounting. It is the low-profile choice for a rig running 35" or larger tyres, and it is made in the USA.

Rear Bumper

The Rock Defense Rear Bumper is engineered for the 6-lug 4WD 4Runner and built from 1035 DOM tubing for high clearance without giving up rigidity. This is the part that stands between a rock and your liftgate.

Rock Sliders

The 58" rock sliders without gussets suit the 4Runner and short bed Pickup, and use 1 3/4" OD x .120 wall 1035 DOM tubing.

Building Your Own Front Bumper

If you are fabricating rather than buying, the LCE Heavy-Duty Winch Mount Plate for the 1989-1995 Pickup and 4Runner is the foundation — 1/4" steel, CNC laser-cut and bent to fit, so the structural part of the job is already done.
