The Year Split Is 2000 / 2001

The master sets are listed as 1995-2000 or 2001-2004. The body mount set is listed 2001-2004 and covers both 4WD and 2WD. Get the year bracket right and the rest is straightforward.

Buy the Set or Buy the One Bushing?

Worth thinking about before you add to cart, because these trucks are now thirty years old at the front of the range:

  • One worn bushing, everything else fine — buy the individual part. Sway bar bushings are the usual culprit and the usual search.
  • The truck clunks, wanders or rides harshly and you have the suspension apart anyway — the master set is the better value, because the labour is the expensive part and you only want to do it once.

What Is Actually in a Master Bushing Set

Both sets — the 1995-2000 master set and the 2001-2004 master set — are polyurethane throughout and include:

  • Front control arm bushings
  • Front coil spring isolators
  • Front sway bar bushings
  • Front rack and pinion bushings
  • Body mounts
  • Rear spring and shackle bushings
  • Tie-rod end boots

The result is a stiffer, more aggressive suspension that stands up to off-road use, and on a truck with tired rubber it also tends to come out quieter than what it replaced, because the slop is gone.

Sway Bar Bushings — Measure First

These are listed by bar diameter: 25mm, 26mm and 27mm. The right one is whichever matches your bar, not whichever matches your year, so put a caliper or a tape on the bar before ordering. This is the single most common reason a bushing order comes back.

Body Mounts

The body mount bushings for the 2001-2004 Tacoma cover 4WD and 2WD. Body mounts are easy to overlook and they are often what is actually moving when a truck feels loose over bumps rather than the suspension itself.
