Lift Kits and Suspension Systems for the 1996-2002 4Runner
Most of what is on this page is damping, not spacers. The ELKA shocks here are ordered by the lift height they are valved for, so the first thing to know is how much lift you are running or planning — 0 to 2 inches, or 2 to 3 inches. Pick that, then pick the shock.

Every ELKA kit on this page is built for a lift range, and running the wrong one is the most common way a good shock ends up feeling bad. A shock valved for 2 to 3 inches of lift on a stock-height truck rides harsh; the reverse tops out. Two ranges cover the third generation:
0 to 2 inches — stock height through a mild level or light spacer lift
2 to 3 inches — the usual 4Runner lift, and where most builds land
Which ELKA Series
The series number is the shock body diameter, and bigger means more oil, more surface area and less fade on a long descent.
2.0 IFP — internal floating piston, available as front, rear or a matched front-and-rear kit. The sensible starting point for a trail-and-street 4Runner.
2.5 IFP — the same design in a larger body, for heavier trucks and longer, rougher days.
2.5 Remote Reservoir — separates the oil reservoir from the shock body, so heat has somewhere to go on sustained washboard and long downhills.
2.5 DC Reservoir — dual control, with the reservoir plus external adjustment, for owners who want to tune compression and rebound themselves.
If You Want One Matched Package
The Old Man Emu suspension system for the 1996-2002 4Runner is the complete-kit answer on this page. OME tune and match their kits to how the truck is actually outfitted — bumper, winch, rack, drawers — rather than selling one spring rate for every build. If your 4Runner carries weight, that matching matters more than the shock badge.
